'People are afraid' - why 'juggernaut' Arsenal have become the team to beat.

It's clear why Arsenal are now countless pundits' top picks to win the Premier League during this term.

Consider their outcomes against Fulham and Crystal Palace versus those equivalent matches in the previous campaign.

The Gunners have overcome all of them during this campaign, but surrendered 10 points across those games as they faded in the title race last season.

Defensive Strength

Arsenal's defensive solidity is a primary factor why they are seeming ready to ultimately achieve their title ambition.

They stand first for shutouts (6), goals conceded (3), opposition efforts (72), quality opportunities against (19) and xGA (5.3).

The defensive partnership of Gabriel and William Saliba is possibly the strongest in the league, with Arsenal recording a clean sheet in six of their first nine games.

Set-Piece Expertise

Their threat from set-pieces is well known, but competing clubs still don't know how to neutralize the Gunners from these chances.

They have notched 11 times from set-pieces in the league, two more than any other side, with 69% of their goals resulting from these situations.

"Arsenal can do a bit of everything now. The whole team has a daunting aura. People are just fearful of them and it is excellent to see."

Championship Pedigree

What is particularly notable about Arsenal's start to the campaign is they have also encountered Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle United away from home and Manchester City in their own stadium - and are still leading by four at the top.

While they maintain victories, their traditional rivals are struggling. This marks the first time at this point of the season since 1992 that none of Manchester City and United, Liverpool or Chelsea are in the Premier League top four.

The pressure was on boss Mikel Arteta at the start, having spent around £250m on eight summer acquisitions in pursuit of that long-awaited first title since 2004.

But the spending has so far proven successful in style, with his side one of the most prolific attacks in the league and having the most resilient defense, despite several injuries.

  • Shutouts in three straight Premier League games
  • 385 minutes without letting in a goal
  • Only a handful of concessions in 12 games across various contests

Former players and pundits have described Arteta's men as a "powerhouse, looking challenging to stop" with the whole club now functioning with belief and determination.
